About Us

Welcome to Rough Peel Music.

A brief history: We used to be Real Groovy Christchurch and emerged in Wellington after the earthquake of February 22, 2011 forced the closure of the store. A fresh start with a new name was the way to go and here we are.... RPM has a great selection of new and used vinyl, CDs and DVDs.

If you can't find what you are looking for contact us at info@roughpeel.co.nz and we will try to source it for you.

Website Hints

Here are some hints for using our Website.

To search for the latest additions head to Advanced Search and click on the "Sort By" drop down arrow the select "Newest Products"

You can narrow your search more by choosing a Catalogue/Genre to browse

Or you can really narrow you search more by using the "Keyword" selection. For example to find all the latest vinyl additions you would write "Vinyl" in the "Keyword" box, Select "Newest Products" in the "Sort By" Drop down. This will show you all the newest vinyl added to the website, new and secondhand.

Paul is mad enough to start a new shop when record stores are closing all over the place. You will often find him buried in paperwork but every now and then he ventures out of his office to play with vinyl! A fan of many genres from Punk to Reggae, Rock to Folk, Country to Funk and everything in between. Oh, and he has his very own record label too, wahoo!!

Pet has an addiction to vinyl. He collects mostly Soul, Funk, Boogie, Deep Disco and Rare Groove. He loves his two early 70's Fender Tele Basses and has jammed in different bands over the last 20 years. Most recently Pet has been playing selections of his vinyl collection out and about forming one half of the Dj/Live duo THE Hi-Tech Tonics with long time friend and fellow beat junkie, Rio Hemopo.

Grayson, semi-professional vegan pizza chef and connoisseur of many things musical, has been hiding behind the counters of record stores since the early days of Y2K. With a musical education to boot, you can spin a yarn with him over anything from Minor Threat to Modern Day Minimalism.
